Tricks and Treats at Center Playhouse!

Who would believe with such a plot that this is a comedy and you will howl with laughter!

A great way to celebrate the Halloween Weekend is to attend the play Arsenic and Old Lace at Center Playhouse in Freehold.  There are dead bodies being dragged across the stage.  The batty Brewster sisters are serial killers and the sweetest old ladies you’d ever meet.  Their treats are their delicious and nutritious homemade soups and their trick is their homemade elderberry wine.  The sisters are tied with their nephew Jonathan, who has escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane, each being responsible for twelve dead bodies.  Then there’s Dr. Einstein who botched the plastic surgery on Jonathan who now has the face of a monster!  Who would believe with such a plot that this is a comedy and you will howl with laughter!  At intermission there are no tricks, only treats of gourmet desserts and, of course, some Halloween candy.

Gloria Moro of Manalapan is a guest blogger for Center Players.  She has studied playwriting at The Playwrights Theater, New Jersey Rep and McCarter Theater.
