College Visits: When to Start

My clients often ask me when they should begin to visit college campuses.  I feel that it is always a good time.  So much of what they think of college life has been influenced by television and movies.  Students see that college life appears to be all fun and games as depicted in “Greek” or vice versa (does anyone remember “The Paper Chase”? – okay I am dating myself). Visiting colleges also helps students to get a sense of what they like or do not like in a campus. In my own experience, college visits helped motivate my children to want to do better in high school – and not just in their junior year.  Students and their families should look at a college campus or two as soon as the children begin high school.  See a sporting event or a performance on campus. Show your children what they have to look forward to after high school and maybe - just maybe – they will be even more motivated to achieve greater high school success!
