21st CCLC Students Plant Flowers for Arbor Day

The Freehold Borough Shade Tree Commission sponsored the event.

Freehold Borough Shade Tree Commission members and students in the Freehold Borough 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) program got their hands dirty at the Park Avenue Complex Friday. About a dozen students from the afterschool program planted flowers outside the school in honor of Arbor Day.

Christine Gregory, a member of the commission, said Shade Tree has held Arbor Day programs with 21st CCLC students for the past two years. The annual event provides an opportunity for the commission to educate children about trees and the natural world.

After planting flowers, the students read quotes and poems from famous conservationists such as President Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir. In addition, Park Avenue Elementary School band members performed three songs during the program.
