5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 6

A round-up of useful information and events happening around Freehold today.

1. Frosted: According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 41 degrees and a northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 31 degrees and a south wind around 6 mph.

2. Bronzed: Kiersten Withstandley, a fifth grade student at Marshall W. Errickson School in Freehold Township, earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award for her efforts with the Nike-Reuse-A-Shoe Program. She collected a total of 630 sneakers to be used for athletic surfaces such as indoor and outdoor basketball courts, track, field, and playground surfaces. 3. Idoled: Alexa Pantaleo, of , took third in the Watchung Arts Center 2012 NJ IDOL vocal competition. The competition drew 35 singers from all areas of New Jersey including Newark, Nutley, Toms River and Bridgewater to the Feb. 18 auditions. 4. Donated: This year, The Bridge of Books Foundation (“BoB”) commemorated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America by donating nearly 20,000 books to at-risk children throughout New Jersey.  The in Freehold was one of 7 locations where books were donated.
