Celebrate Fourth of July in Freehold

Freehold Borough will hold its eighth annual reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Fourth of July at 9 a.m. on the steps of Borough Hall. The fire bell will be struck 50 times, the American flag will be raised and program attendees with recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The program will end with a rendition of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Any resident who would like to read a portion of the Declaration of Independence should arrive at 8:30 a.m.

Downtown Freehold is sponsoring Fourth of July Concert & Fireworks at Freehold Raceway on Sunday, July 3 at 5:30 p.m. (the rain date is Monday, July 4). The event features live music by The RocknRoll Chorus and Turnstyles, who will perform covers of songs by Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, John Mellancamp, Steely Dan and more. Face painters and balloon magicians will also be on hand for this family-friendly event. A half-hour of fireworks begins at dusk.

All government offices will be closed Monday, as will the Freehold Public Library.
