Downtown Freehold Celebrates Hanukkah

Families gathered around the giant menorah in front of the Hall of Records to celebrate Hanukkah and tradition.

The lighting of the menorah in front of the was not only a Hanukkah celebration, but it also marked the 100 year anniversary for the . 

Congregation members, including the Hebrew School classes joined Rabbi Dr. Tal Sessler and Cantor, Robert Orenstein in front of the menorah and spoke about the spirit of Hanukkah. 

After Sessler’s speech and blessings, about 30 Hebrew school students gathered with their teachers and families to sing together while the third light on the menorah was lit.

“It is a wonderful gathering and tradition,” said Freehold Amy Mallet, who was present at the lighting ceremony. “It gives a really nice feeling of community, and the history of Hanukkah.” 

The giant menorah from the Chabad House will remain in front of the hall of records and will continue to light a candle every night of Hanukkah until the end of the holiday.  The menorah lighting event also ended Downtown Freehold’s holiday event season.
