Freehold Borough Council Approves New Recreation Committee Members

Weather

The National Weather Service forecasts showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. Tuesday. We’ll see the day’s high of 61 degrees Wednesday morning before the thunderstorms, after which the temperature will fall to around 46. The overnight low will be 32 degrees.

Freehold Borough Council Appointments

During Monday night’s regular Freehold Borough Council meeting, the governing body made appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission, the Recreation Advisory Committee, and a Citizen Participation Group required by a Community Development Block Grant application for road improvements.

Lynda Keller will serve a term on the Historic Preservation Commission ending Dec. 31.

Susan Greitz will fill Peanut Holloway’s vacancy on the Recreation Advisory Committee for a term expiring Dec. 31. Eileen Korz will fill Maria Chaffer’s vacancy on the committee for a term ending Dec. 31, 2014.

Jeffrey Friedman, Marlene Rogala, Jean Holtz, Ronald DeMarco and Kevin Kane were appointed to the Citizen Participation Group.

High School Sports

Colonials baseball and softball will play Colts Neck away at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. In addition, boys golf will compete away against Neptune and girls golf will take on Lacey Township away at that time.

Patriots boys tennis will play Monmouth Regional at home at 3:45 p.m. At 4 p.m., girls lacrosse will take on Colts Neck away and boys track will compete away against Christian Brothers Academy.

Monmouth County Library

Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan will show the film "Black Swan" Tuesday at 2 p.m. as part of its best picture nominees of the 2011 Academy Awards series.

Celebrate Earth Day a little early with environmental educator Diana Dove on Tuesday from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the “Whales, Sharks & Ocean Creatures” event at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan. Go on a pretend whale-watching trip, see a 30-foot great white shark, handle artifacts from the ocean, sing songs, and learn how to protect the ocean environment. The session is for kids in Kindergarten and above. No registration is required.

Senior Citizen Art Show

Monmouth County residents age 60 and over are invited to submit a piece of art in the annual 2011 Senior Citizen Art Contest and Exhibition.

Download the complete application packet from the county website, pick up an application at the county’s Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans’ Services at 21 Main St., Freehold, or request a copy be mailed to them by calling 732-431-7450. The deadline to submit an application is June 21.

Entries will be on display in the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan from July 6 through July 30. Winners of the local competition will then go on to compete in a statewide senior citizen art contest sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Area Agencies on Aging.
