Freehold Rock Star's Confections Delight at Lunch Break Benefit

Our Last Sin drummer Kimmee Masi's cupcakes had a rock n' roll theme at networking event to benefit Lunch Break.

The art of networking has its advantages. For starters it was a win-win situation for the more than 100 people who mixed and mingled and exchanged business cards at the "Building Relationships: Business Networking and Red Carpet Gala." The event was hosted by Chris Fotache and Rosa Davis of Jersey Shore Premier Events, at the swank Buona Sera Ristorante in Red Bank on Tuesday evening.

However, the icing on the cake is that a portion of the proceeds will benefit Lunch Break, a community food pantry located in Red Bank and where hot meals are served daily.  Patrons who attended the networking event also donated food items that will help to stock the cupboards at Lunch Break.

Indeed, there was plenty of cake in the house, as one of the many vendors, Kimmee Masi, of Freehold, charmed the networkers with her sinfully delicious cupcakes.  “Confections of a Rock Star,” the name of her business, blends her musical attribute, as a drummer, with her love of baking.

“At four years old I learned how to play drums,” said Massi.  “My father had two bakeries and at nine years old I started helping him out at the bakeries.” Massi’s cupcakes were artistically displayed in a guitar case, which made them even more inviting to look at. Fed up with corporate America, Massi, who plays with the band “Our Last Sin,” left the corporate world behind and voila, Confections of a Rock Star was born.  Massi, is hoping to move her baking business into a commercial building on Cookman Ave., in Asbury Park, this coming September.

The star attraction of the event was the red carpet area that was cordoned off and reserved for those Hollywood glam photos. One of the sponsors of the event was the radio station 95.9 WRAT, where Melissa Festa, who is a “Rat Rock Girl,” along with the WRAT sales representative, James Patterson, posed throughout the evening with many of the networkers.

Clearly, the host organization’s mission statement provides an endearing purpose for such a festive occasion.  The mission is simple, bring small business owners together to pool together resources and ideas in order to strengthen communities and help businesses grow.  In such hard economic times, it is apparent that Jersey Shore Premier Events has found its niche in helping businesses and charitable causes simultaneously.

Considering June is a big month for weddings, Michele Falco, who is a make-up artist and hair stylist, showcased the latest wave in make-up artistry,  airbrushing.  She demonstrated the technique that covers up tattoos and such skin ailments as rosacea, on many of the women who passed by her vending table.  She also specializes in make-up for women of color.  With sample portfolios of her work laid out on the table the name of her business, “You, Only More Gorgeous, Bridal by Michele,” was apropos to Falco’s work.

Overall, the evening was a tremendous success topped off by a spread of delicious food, non-stop chatter, a 50/50 raffle and lots of people striking a Hollywood pose on the red carpet.
