Get Out: Battle of Monmouth Reenactment, Archery, Pet Adoption Fair

Find out where the fun is at in Monmouth County this weekend.

When & where: Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Manalapan

Why you should go: Monmouth Battlefield State Park will come alive this weekend as Revolutionary War reenactors take the field. In addition to the cannon fire and musket shots of the battle, visitors can see the camp life of 18th century soldiers.

In addition, dozens of vendors will be on site selling their wares.

What does it cost: Free

When & where: Sunday, June 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at West Freehold Schoolhouse in Freehold Township

Why you should go:  The one-room schoolhouse on Wemrock Road dates back to 1847 and was in continuous use as a school until 1935. The site is now a museum showcasing the history of early education in Freehold Township.

What does it cost: Free

When & where: Saturday, June 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dean’s Natural Food Market in Shrewsbury

Why you should go: The Monmouth County SPCA and Dean’s Natural Food Market will host a pet adoption fair. Help a pet find its forever home, try a doggie yoga class and check out the free samples.

What does it cost: Free

When & where: Sunday, June 19 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Thompson Park in Lincroft

Why you should go: Want to try your hand at archery? Thompson Park is sponsoring an Open Shoot Archery Program at the Activity Barn. The non-instructional program is for adults and children eight years and up. Kids under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What does it cost: $5

When & where: Saturday, June 18 at 8:30 a.m. at Marine Park in Red Bank

Why you should go: The 18th annual George Sheehan Classic features a five-mile run and a two-mile health walk. Over 2,000 runners are expected for the event. A picnic, runner’s expo and awards ceremony will take place in the park after the race. Brannigans will host a post-race party featuring the Tor Miller Band.

What does it cost: $35 for the five-mile run, $25 for the two-mile walk
