Rain and thunderstorms are possible Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The high for the day will be near 85 degrees and the overnight low will be 70.

Freehold will begin to feel the effects of Hurricane Irene on Saturday, with rain and thunderstorms beginning in the afternoon and getting stronger into the evening, according to the National Weather Service. Wind speeds will be around 11 mph in the morning and increasing to 34 to 37 mph by night.

will hold a job fair on Friday, Aug. 26 and Saturday, Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to fill 300 positions. iPlay America is an indoor activity center with games, rides and restaurants; the facility is scheduled to open in late October.

Prepare an Emergency Kit

Residents have been flocking to hardware and grocery stores in anticipation of Hurricane Irene. Discuss your emergency plan with your family members and prepare a household kit to weather the storm.

The Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management advises the following items be included in your emergency kit: one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days; a three-day supply of nonperishable food; a battery-powered or hand crank radio; a flashlight and extra batteries; a can opener; and a first aid kit.

The St. Padre Pio Society’s Feast of the Giglio continues at the this weekend. The event will feature rides, food and nightly entertainment. Festival organizers have moved up the highlight of the event--the dancing of the giglio—from Sunday to Saturday at 5 p.m. because of the pending storm. The dancing of the giglio involves 75 to 100 men lifting a five-story tall wooden structure.

The Freehold Farmers Market will take place Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Hall of Records. Vendors at the event sell fresh, locally grown produce. The participants in this year’s Freehold Farmer's Market include Kauffman Farms, Farmingdale; The Farm, Freehold; Hauser Hill Farms, Old Bridge; Trapper's Honey, Clarksburg; Pickle Licious, Teaneck; Schilke Organic Farms, Eatontown; and Rocky Brook Farm, Millstone.
