Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission Hosts Spring Forum

Shade Tree Spring Forum

The Monmouth County Shade Tree Commission will hold its annual Spring Forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Agriculture Building at 4000 Kozloski Rd. This year’s forum will focus on choosing the right trees to manage storm water runoff. The Master Gardeners of Monmouth County will discuss their services, which include involvement in volunteer projects, a telephone helpline to answer horticulture advice, and free plant diagnoses and soil tests.

“This year’s forum gives an update on the gypsy moth situation, but gives us a chance to offer valuable information to landscapers and homeowners,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the county Shade Tree Commission.

Continuing education credits are available for municipalities that participate in the NJ Shade Tree and Community Forestry Assistance Act. Also, individual pesticide license recertification credits are available for ornamental, forest pest control and aerial pest control. College Financial Aid Planning

The Freehold High School PTSO will hold a free College Financial Aid Planning Workshop for parents and students at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the school auditorium. Registration for the program begins at 6:45 p.m. The workshop will discuss information parents and students need to know to maximize the amount of financial aid they are eligible for. Attendees will learn about tax deductions, in addition to the Hope Scholarship and Lifetime Learning Credit; how to develop a financial plan for all college costs; and what assets are taken into consideration by the U.S. Department of Education when it calculates the expected family contribution number.

St. Rose of Lima School will hold in-person religious education registration for the 2011-2012 school year in the school cafeteria (door #8) on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday April 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Religious education classes are available for Kindergarten through eighth grade students.

Kindergarten Open House

Freehold Borough School District will hold a Kindergarten open house for incoming Park Avenue Elementary School and Freehold Learning Center students and parents on Wednesday, March 30 and Thursday March 31 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Park Avenue Elementary School tour will be held at West Freehold School, where the district plans on renting Kindergarten classroom space for four classes next year.
