This roof is pretty amazing and can be seen by drivers passing through Freehold. This structure with black and white checkers and funky shape stands above a building that hundreds of people go in and out of everyday.

• Old Monmouth Candies was started in 1898 by Maurice Foosaner and a partner named Harris under the label "The Famous Home Made Peanut Brittle," still a favorite product of Old Monmouth Candies.
• Later it became "Foosey's Famous Home Made Original Cris-P-nut Candy," made by Maurice Foosnaner alone.
• The firm early on registered a trade mark of a woman in Colonial costume stirring a kettle over an open hearth stone fire place, with the slogan "So different from the ordinary."
• Their cans, patented on January 30, 1923, were manufactured by the Passaic Metal Ware Co., of Passaic, NJ. Subsequent owners included Dey & Prest, who renamed the company "Old Monmouth Peanut Brittle."
• An advertising card from the 1940s claimed "We Love to Mail Candy to You." It offered a one pound can of peanut brittle or a one pound can of walnut brittle, both sent for $2.00 postage prepaid. A one-pound can of peanut brittle alone cost 85 cents, a 2 pound can of peanut brittle $1.65.
• It came from Old Monmouth Peanut Brittle Co., Park Avenue, Route 33, Freehold, N. J.
• The building has been enlarged since the advertising card was issued, but the show room remains the same. The Prest family continues to own the company today. It has branched out into a full line of chocolates and other sweet confections.
• Peanut Brittle remains a favorite product.
