The Week Ahead: First Week of December

A list of meetings, events, and activities, going on in Freehold this week.

Holiday Events

Downtown Freehold will light the Freehold Borough Christmas Tree in front of the Hall of Records on Tuesday, Dec. 4.  The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. with music from the Rock N Roll Chorus and a special appearance from Santa Claus.

Grand Openings

  • Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay will be opening his Freehold location of Bobby’s Burger Palace on Wednesday, Dec. 5. The restaurant is located near JC Penney in the Freehold Raceway Mall. To help those affected by Hurricane Sandy, $1 will be donated the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties for every burger, including turkey and chicken, sold during opening week of Bobby's Burger Palace.
  • Friday Dec. 7 marks the grand opening of City Square Bar & Grille from Encore at iPlay America. While Friday marks the grand opening, the opening is being celebrated all week long beginning with Monday Night Football on Dec. 3. The Dec. 7 Grand Opening Party begins with Happy Hour Buffet Appetizers starting at 5 p.m. This two-hour appetizer service will feature some of City Square Bar & Grille’s signature delights.  The Nerds will take the stage at 9 p.m.  The kitchen will remain open until midnight and the bar will remain open until 1 a.m. For more information about this grand opening visit the event’s listing.

Government Happenings

  • The Freehold Borough Council will meet Monday, Dec. 3. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the Freehold Borough Offices. At this meeting there will be a Youth Police Academy presentation in addition to a resolution that will award a contract for various drainage improvements.   • The Freehold Township Committee will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The Committee will meet in Municipal Building Room 214, with the meeting starting at 8 p.m. Topics for Tuesday’s meeting include resolutions for iPlay America to have amusement games in 2013 and a resolution about disbursing overpayment of taxes.   • The Freehold Township Shade Tree Commission will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
  • The Freehold Township Planning Board will meet on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7: 30 p.m.
