UPDATE: Power Restored to Freehold Homes

Storm on Saturday night knocked out power to 14,000 in Freehold Borough and Freehold Township.

All Freehold residents who experienced outages following Saturday evening's storm should now have power, according to Jersey Central Power & Light.

Earlier on Monday JCP&L reported to Freehold Patch that close to . According to JCP&L spokesperson Ron Morano, the outages in the area were caused by a lightning strike that resulted in the collapse of two utility poles and a water main break. 

"The power outages in Freehold are now complete," said Morano. "There are still a few scattered outages throughout the town but overall, the majority of residents now have their power back."

Despite the outages, Freehold Borough Mayor Nolan Higgins commended JCP&L's work to restore power in the municipality.

"I am pleased to report that JCP&L has been responsive both in the field and in keeping me informed of the situation. They were on the scene quickly after the storm, working to restore power and responding with our to an electrical fire at one of our residences," said Higgins.

According to JCP&L's map of area outages at this time approximately seven homes in Freehold Borough and 27 homes in Freehold Township are currently without power. 

The severe thunderstorm on Saturday knocked out power to 85,000 JCP&L customers, including over 40,000 in Monmouth County. The Freehold area was the hardest hit, with over 14,000 residents in Freehold Township and Freehold Borough left in the dark.
