VFW Picnic Following Memorial Day Parade

Monday will be mostly sunny with the possibility of rain or thunderstorms in the afternoon. The day’s high will be 88 with an overnight low of 69.

Memorial Day Parade

A flag-draped casket accompanied by active military will proceed down Main St. from Brinckerhoff Ave. at 9:45 a.m.  At 10 a.m., the 137th annual Freehold Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at W. Main St. and Brinckerhoff Ave. will serve as grand marshal of the parade. Gerald Norkus, owner Norkus Enterprises, is sponsoring a flyover of a vintage aircraft from Elks Point to Park Ave. at 10 a.m.

VFW Picnic

will hold a picnic after the Freehold Memorial Day Parade on Monday starting at approximately. Members will begin cooking at 11:30 a.m. Come play a game of horseshoes or volleyball with your family, friends and neighbors.

Library Logo Contest

The Monmouth County Library is holding a contest for the design of its new logo. Students ages 14 to 22 are invited to participate, and the winning artist will receive a $500 prize. The new logo will be used on the library Web site, letterhead, fliers and other documents.

The contest will begin June 1 and close Sept. 1. Artists should submit a paper print of their entries by mail to: Library Logo Contest, c/o Public Relations Office, Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, 07726. Monmouth County Accessible Beach Guide

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has published the annual Monmouth County Accessible Beach Guide in time for the 2011 beach season.

“To make summer beach-going easier for individuals with disabilities, this guide provides detailed information about accessible beach walkways and ramps, parking, curb cuts and surf chair availability,” Freeholder Robert D. Clifton said. “The information is organized alphabetically by town or beach and has details about this year’s beach fees, lifeguard hours and amenities.”
