In Marlboro

After two weeks of discussion, the Marlboro Board of Education deadlocked in a 4-4 vote, keeping the April school elections where they are. Gov. Chris Christie announced in January that school districts and municipalities now have the option to combine it's April school board and budget elections with November's general election, removing the annual referendum to vote on the school budget provided the budget is under the 2 percent cap. While the Marlboro BOE came to an impasse, the Marlboro Town Council decided not to intervene to move the election to November. Over 200 municipalities have voted to have local elections in November.

In Matawan-Aberdeen

Aberdeen Township was honored to receive a flag flown over the World Trade Center on the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Members of the Cliffwood Volunteer Fire Company, Aberdeen Hose & Chemical No. 1 and Aberdeen Township Police Department gathered in the municipal building with Mayor Fred Tagliarini and Township Manager Holly Reycraft the morning of Feb. 14 to formally accept the flag.

In Manalapan

Dustin Walters, 22, of Freehold was arrested by Manalapan police on Friday, Feb. 10 for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Manalapan girl on two separate occasions at the Days Inn on Rt. 9 in Freehold. Walters, a delivery driver for in Manalapan, was charged with two counts of Sexual Assault, two counts of criminal sexual contact, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to police. He is currently remanded in Monmouth County Correctional.

Manalapan resident Austin Cammarata, 19, was arrested on Saturday, Feb. 11 for allegedly threatening two Manalapan police officers with a folding lock back knife and attempting to cause bodily injury to the officers on duty, who were investigating a domestic violence case. Cammarata was wielding the knife at the officers and refused to drop the knife when asked to. He was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and resisting arrest and is currently lodged at Monmouth County Correctional.

In Holmdel

Best Market supermarket has opened in the former location of the Top Tomato in the Holmdel Commons at 2130 Route 25 South. The store wants to become known for its low-priced, high-quality produce. It is also still hiring for some positions.

The Holmdel Board of Education voted unanimously by all present to move its school elections to November, to coincide with the General Election.
