Local resident helps students learn to never give up on their dreams

HACEMOS High Tech Day

Freehold resident Mayra Caceres spent her day recently mentoring approximately 70 students from Red Bank, New Brunswick and Matawan-Aberdeen Middle and Charter schools during an event at AT&T’s Labs in Middletown. An engineer and 15-year veteran at AT&T and a member of AT&T’s Hispanic/Latino Association, HACEMOS, Mayra shared her academic and professional experiences as part of High-Tech day. The Middletown event was one of more than 30 held nationally to show students technology careers, the importance of staying in school and never giving up on their dreams.  Students touring AT&T’s Middletown Labs got a look at a router room which relays hundreds of thousands of data and voice calls in the area; today’s advanced video conferencing services called Telepresence, and research projects in several Lab areas. Mayra also helped students take a turn at the “wheel” of an online simulator which safely demonstrates the dangers of texting while driving. The It Can Wait simulator is available free at www.itcanwaitsimulator.org.
