Annual Hanukkah Klezmer Concert: From Russia With Love

The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County is presenting its annual Hanukkah Klezmer concert, From Russia With Love, on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Leon Epstein & the Lehaim Orchestra will perform Russian Klezmer music with Howard Bock (keyboard), Eric Gross (drums), Paul Somer (trombone), Arkadiy Krishtal (accordion), Leon Epstein (clarinet/saxophone/musical direction) and Boris Polyakov (vocals). Klezmer has been an integral part of eastern European Jewry’s musical soul from the beginning, especially in its Russian expression.  A native of the Ukraine, Epstein says that the Orchestra’s aim is to introduce the history of Klezmer, from the stories of pogroms and the Holocaust to the creation of the State of Israel, and especially Yiddish, which he believes quickly faded away.

Tickets ($18 for members and $22 for non-members) include Russian-inspired desserts.  Be sure to get your tickets early by calling the Museum at 732-252-6990 or visiting www.jhmomc.org. The Jewish Heritage Museum is located in the Mounts Corner Shopping Center at 310 Mount’s Corner Drive, Freehold Township. It is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization and is handicapped accessible.

This program is made possible in part by the Monmouth County Arts Council through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Monmouth County Historical Commission, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State and a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
