Take a Vow of Life Long Harmonious Matrimony with Center Players’ Musical "I DO! I DO!"

Take a Vow of Life Long Harmonious Matrimony with Center Players’ Musical I Do! I Do!

“Something old, Something new” the one hundred year old expression is brought center stage this February in Center Players’ current musical production, I Do! I Do! Seldom has the institution of marriage received such a tender and knowing treatment as this musical, laden with rich history and numerous awards, which promises to be an exciting experience in classic Broadway musical comedy for anyone who is looking to celebrate life, love, and laughter.

The first ever Center Players musical is directed by Janet Lynn Spahr of Brick who returns to Center Players after directing last winter’s How the Other Half Loves and returns to this delightful piece after a 30 year period since her last encounter with it. "It's been my observation that one of the most important elements of any relationship is humor.  Given perspective, most of the time we can look back and admit that, indeed, there are time when we have all missed the mark, forgotten to say what we mean, or allowed our stubbornness to mess up a good thing. Without being able to laugh at ourselves and our behavior, there is no hope of forgiveness.  Michael and Agnes show us that  - through song, tears, and laughter." Ms. Spahr is paired with musical director Bob Sammond of Freehold and choreographer Monica Vermuelen of Brick to bring the heart and warmth of this show to the spotlight.

You are invited into the bedroom of newlyweds Michael & Agnes who anticipate a wonderful, blissful life..."Together Forever" as one of the early musical selections would have us believe. As we all know, reality sets in as the young couple struggle to maintain their happiness, passion, devotion and, yes, even a sense of humor, through all the joys, pains, trials, and tribulations that they share in their 50 years of marriage.

The production showcases the talents of Anthony Greco (Tinton Falls) and Yvette Cataneo (Freehold), two Center Players favorites who have appeared in dozens of musicals throughout the tri-state area, as the happy Mr. and Mrs. in the musical. Greco has been seen onstage in several Center Players shows including Barefoot in the Park, The Heiress, and Tuesdays with Morrie. While Cataneo has been seen in It’s A Wonderful Life, How the Other Half Loves, and most recently Miracle On 34th Street. These two performers bring their on-stage magic together to highlight the institution of marriage in a most charming and memorable take on the subject. Join them in a matrimonial adventure that revisits the power and enchantment of love — a story to which all of us can relate!
