Contractors' Registration Act Protects NJ Homeowners

As an insurance agent serving Monmouth county since 1990, I have certainly heard some horrible stories about the fraud perpetrated by contractors throughout the state of New Jersey on vulnerable homeowners.  And while we know that the fraudsters are a very small minority of the many hard-hardworking and decent contractors in NJ, the devastation a dishonest contractor can leave behind can be life changing for the victims.

Unfortunately after Hurricane Sandy last Fall acts of fraud started once again to surface filling local newspapers with lists of those to avoid and newspaper articles about local contractors being indicted.  Many of the homeowner insurance carriers we represent here at The Leigh Agency sent out "How to Hire a Contractor" newsletters that we worked diligently to get to our clients, customers and friends.

So when I learned of the passing of the "Contractors Registration Act" recently by our state legislature I couldn't help but think of all the folks in Freehold, and the rest of the county, who will now be able to gain a greater level of confidence when next they hire a contractor.
