Barkalow Middle School Hosts A Career Fair with Senator Beck as the Keynote Speaker

8th grade students at Barkalow Middle School had the opportunity to learn about many different careers yesterday at their Career Fair organized by 8th grade guidance counselor, Ms. Bruins.

It’s hard to know what you want to be these days; there are so many different opportunities and it is challenging to know where to focus your studies. Students are under more and more pressure to make decisions about their future at an earlier age, which is hard to do when you don’t really know what is out there. Fortunately for Barkalow students, their guidance counselor Ms. Bruins, organized a wonderful event that brought many different guest speakers to their school to talk about their careers and the path that lead them to where they are today.

Senator Beck was the keynote speaker and she talked to the students about all the career choices available to them in this day and age and how her path didn’t at all lead to the places she thought it would. She is a great example to the students that finding what your good at, but following your passion will lead you in the right direction.

After listening to the Senator, students were able to visit three additional presenters of their choosing. Speakers ranged from chefs to small business owners, surgeons and detectives. A full list of guest speakers can be found below. Ms. Bruins is so grateful to all the amazing presenters who came to share their stories and the students feel fortunate that now they get ready to enter high school armed with a little more knowledge about what to do in life!
