Project HEAL New Jersey Chapter Art Show

Project HEAL was originally founded in 2008 by two teenage girls who met in treatment for their eating disorders. The mission of Project HEAL is to raise awareness about eating disorder, break their cultural stigma and to promote positive body image. Additionally, the Help to Heal Scholarship fund. Unfortunately, insurance coverage for eating disorders is severely lacking, leaving many unable to get the help they need. Through the fund every year a recipient is chosen, one who truly has the drive to recover but not the means to do so and they are sent to treatment. To date, Project HEAL has raised over $130,000.

A survivor of an eating disorder myself, I know firsthand its misery. Along with Tina Zapata, a fellow eating disorder survivor we are bringing the mission of Project HEAL to New Jersey. The Project HEAL New Jersey Chapter upholds Project HEAL’s mission and proceeds from our event will go to the Help to HEAL Scholarship fund.

All the Art at the event will be a part of a silent auction and it will be themed around recovery, self-love, and freedom. Art therapy is a modality used quite often in the treatment of eating disorders and for many suffers it proves an incredible outlet to express their emotions. As well as the art, which will be part of a silent auction, we will have a Chinese Auction thanks to the contributions of local businesses. Vic Avon, author of My Monster Within:My Story will be a guest speaker at the event.
