My Monmouth Launches Hurricane Relief Resource Center for Monmouth County

FREEHOLD, N.J. – Monmouth County, N.J. residents and visitors now have a place to find valuable resources that will aid in the recovery from the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, thanks to the Hurricane Relief Resource Center. The launch was announced today by My Monmouth, an online community and news hub for Monmouth County.

The Hurricane Relief Resource Center is a map-based tool that allows people to easily identify and locate relief resources in Monmouth County, whether they’re looking to receive assistance or provide assistance. Users simply select the type of resource they want to find. For example, if a user chooses “donation centers,” the map will populate with donation centers in Monmouth County. By clicking a pin on the map, users will receive additional data, including contact information.

My Monmouth founder Jay Garrett, a local real estate professional, noticed that various media outlets covered states or regions, but none seemed to focus exclusively on Monmouth County. Garrett believed a platform like this was critical in order to communicate real-time, storm-related updates on a hyper-local level. Launched as a Facebook page less than a month ago, My Monmouth has grown to a community of more than 500 fans while reaching more than 20,000 people.

“A lot of families and businesses in our area really need help, and I felt this would be the easiest way for people to find information that would help them the most,” said Garrett. “My Monmouth has played a vital role in keeping people connected and helping people in ways I had never imagined. This has been a very personal project for me, and I’m humbled by the response we’ve seen.”

My Monmouth has helped people find gas, food, shelters, volunteer clean-up crews, donation centers, disaster assistance, places to vote and other much-needed resources and information. The organization even facilitated a corporate donation of 500 flashlights to a Monmouth County town that struggled to regain power. A natural extension of My Monmouth, the Hurricane Relief Resource Center provides a comprehensive, easy-to-navigate platform for anyone who needs help or would like to offer to help.
