Freehold Soccer League's Opening Day

This past Saturday was the official kick off of the soccer season in Freehold. Over the past 40 plus years of existence, this was the first year that opening ceremonies were held. Boys and girls from Pre-K and up, came together to show everyone they were ready for the season. Each team constructed banners with the theme American Pride. Some banners were small, some huge, all were done with pride for our country and the game we love, soccer.

You could see the excitement on all the children and coaches faces. For some, this was the first major event they were involved in for any organized sports group. Freehold Soccer League, with its board members and many volunteers, helped keep 700 plus children safe and organized. Tom Fields, the Rec. Soccer Coordinator and organizer of this event, was walking along talking to everyone and the kids feed of his positive energy and excitement.

As a former player and current coach, I tip my hat the the League and especially Tom Fields for putting together this wonderful event. Sadly, the opening game was shortened by rain, but the electricity was felt by all in attendance! Freehold Soccer League made all of us proud and the children will learn from this fine club to honor the game! Great event and looking forward to a excellent season ahead.
