License plate readers have been installed at the entrances and exits of Freehold Raceway Mall, according to the Asbury Park Press.
The counterterrorism measure entails recording the license plates of every car that enters and leaves the mall, the Asbury Park Press reported.
As one of the largest shopping malls in New Jersey, Freehold Raceway was selected due to its potential as a terrorist target, the Asbury Park Press said.
The license plate readers, which are not yet active, will scan plates and record the time, date and location of vehicles, the Asbury Park Press reported. The system will also perform a computer search of law enforcement records. They do not detect speeding.
