A brief break from the Arctic chill

Warm conditions this morning have finally given the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas a brief break to the Arctic chill, however the warm conditions won't last long as an Arctic cold front drives towards the region today.  Another cold week is on the way with a threat for periods of light snow on Wednesday and on Sunday.

An Arctic cold front will charge through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas by this afternoon with scattered rain and snow showers throughout the region.  The rain showers will change over to snow showers as the cold air advances with accumulations of a trace to a few isolated locations up to 2".  Winds will veer from the southwest to northwest at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will fall through the 30's, 20's, and 10's by this evening as the cold front exits.

High pressure will be in control tonight through tomorrow with scattered cloud cover to clear skies.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the single digits to lower 10's for lows and upper 10's to lower 20's over the interior and lower to mid 20's along the coast for highs tomorrow afternoon.

An area of low pressure well to the east of the region on Wednesday will be close enough to produce scattered snow showers and possibly a period of light snow along the New Jersey coast, especially southern New Jersey.  Snowfall accumulations will be a trace of snow at most over the interior however coastal locations may pick up one or two inches of snow before the light snow exits on Wednesday evening.  Temperatures will range from the single digits to lower 10's for lows and mid to upper 20's for highs.

High pressure will be in control on Thursday with scattered cloud cover.  A cold front will follow on Friday with scattered snow showers.  Snow showers will linger over the region on Saturday ahead of another area of low pressure on Sunday.  This low pressure system on Sunday will be capable of producing periods of snow over the region.  However, the track and intensity of this storm is uncertain at this time.  The snow may mix with rain if the storm track is further north than currently expected.  Temperatures Thursday will range from the single digits to lower 10's for lows and upper 20's to lower 30's for highs.  Temperatures on Friday through Sunday will range from the mid 10's to lower 20's for lows and upper 20's to mid 30's for highs.
