Another Raw, Cool Day

A back door cold front has driven well to the west of the New York City and Philadelphia metropolitan areas which has placed the entire region in a cool, wet, marine air mass.  The cool conditions won't last long though as above normal temperatures and humid conditions are on the way for this weekend and next week.

Overcast to broken clouds, periods of drizzle, and showers can be expected through this evening.  The majority of the showers will be focused over eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey with more drizzle along the coast.  The best potential for breaks in the clouds will be over Connecticut and Long Island, which will be closer to the Atlantic high pressure system.  Winds will be from the east at 5 to 15 mph.  High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 70's over the Philadelphia metropolitan area, lower to mid 70's over the New York City metropolitan area, and mid to upper 60's over Long Island.

Tonight, overcast skies with periods of showers and drizzle can be expected.  Winds will veer to the southeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 60's for lows throughout the entire Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.

The back door cold front will retreat as a warm front tomorrow morning with periods of showers and a few isolated thunderstorms.  A break in the showers and thunderstorms can be expected in the early afternoon hours with some breaks in the clouds which will allow temperatures to rise into the 80's.  A cold front will follow in the late afternoon and evening hours with periods of showers and strong thunderstorms.  An isolated severe thunderstorm will be possible with very heavy downpours, frequent lightning, hail, and wind gusts over 50 mph.  Very heavy rainfall can be expected with up to an inch of rain along the coast and up to two inches along and west of the Delaware River.  Localized flash and urban flooding will be a threat.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 80's over much of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas and upper 70's to lower 80's along the immediate coast.

High pressure will take hold on Saturday and Sunday with with clearing skies and lower humidity.  Excellent weather conditions can be expected through the weekend with winds from the west and northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Low temperatures will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's.  High temperature will range from the mid to upper 70's over Long Island, upper 70's to lower 80's along the New Jersey coast, and lower to mid 80's throughout the rest of the northern Mid Atlantic.
