Arctic chill leads to snow for weekend

Aside from a few disturbances producing a stray snow shower or two, arctic high pressure will be in complete control through Saturday morning with clear skies to scattered clouds and very cold temperatures.  An area of low pressure will develop along the Gulf Coast and rapidly move northeastward towards the New Jersey coast on Saturday night into Sunday with snow and rain.

Today through tomorrow, arctic high pressure will be in control with scattered cloud cover to clear skies expected.  Winds will be from the north at 5 to 15 mph.  A few snow showers will be possible through the period leading to a brief reduction in visibility and a dusting of snow.  Temperatures today will struggle in the lower to mid 20's over the interior and mid to upper 20's along the coast for highs.  Tomorrow, temperatures will range from the single digits to mid 10's for lows and mid 20's to lower 30's for highs.

An area of low pressure will approach the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas on Saturday with increasing clouds and snow developing in the afternoon.  The snow will become steady through the evening hours.  The snow will slowly change to rain along the southern New Jersey coast first and then gradually change over to rain over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas by early Sunday morning.  The precipitation is expected to remain all snow or a snow and sleet mix to the north and west of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.  Details on snow accumulation is below.
