With the Arctic cold front well off the coast this morning, the main story to end the week will be the presence of brutally cold air over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. Temperatures today will struggle in the 10's and 20's with a biting northwester wind. The Arctic air will exit rather quickly this weekend but will be followed by the potential for a major winter storm with a wide variety of storm impacts.
Today through tomorrow, high pressure will move through the northern Mid Atlantic with generally clear skies. A few snow showers will be possible as weak disturbances pass through the region. Temperatures today will be brutally cold with highs in the upper 10's to lower 20's. The wind chills today will struggle in the single digits. Temperatures on Saturday will be far warmer with single digits in the morning and lower to mid 30's in the afternoon.
An Arctic cold front will drop south on Sunday with scattered snow shower expected. Little to no snowfall accumulation is expected with this cold front boundary. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 30's for highs early on Sunday before falling into the upper 20's to lower 30's by the afternoon hours.

As the Arctic front stalls to the south of New Jersey, another disturbance will approach from the west producing periods of snow, sleet, and rain Sunday night on through Monday and into Tuesday morning. Significant snowfall is expected from this low pressure system along with ice, however the exact details on snowfall accumulations are still uncertain. This storm has the capability to produce snowfall amounts of over a foot. Temperatures through the storm will range from the lower to mid 20's for lows and mid to upper 20's for highs.
High pressure will be in control on Wednesday with clearing skies and cold conditions. Temperatures will struggle in the mid to upper 10's for lows and upper 20's to lower 30's for highs. An area of low pressure will approach from the south on Thursday leading to periods of rain and snow. Temperatures will range from the mid 20's for lows and mid 40's for highs.
