Cold and tranquil start to the week

After a period of light snow that produce 1 to 3 inches of snow with isolated 4th inch in some locations, a cold and dry start to the week is on the way.  However, a major winter storm is brewing for Wednesday night through Thursday that has the potential to produce significant snowfall, strong winds, and coastal flooding.

High pressure will be in control through Wednesday morning with clear skies giving way to increasing clouds by Wednesday afternoon.  Winds will veer from the northwest to the north at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will remain well below normal through the period.  Low temperatures will range from the single digits to mid 10's.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 20's over the interior and mid to upper 20's along the coast.

A major winter storm will approach the region Wednesday night through Thursday with the potential for significant snowfall.  The immediate coast may mix with or go over to rain depending on the exact track of the low pressure system.  The exact track of the low pressure system is still very much in question.  However, the potential for significant coastal flooding is growing along with impacts from strong wind gusts and poor visibility.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 20's for lows and upper 20's to upper 30's for highs depending on the track of the low pressure system.

High pressure will take hold Friday through Sunday with scattered cloud cover expected.  Temperatures will only be slight below normal through the period.  Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 20's for lows and mid to upper 30's for highs.
