Cold conditions follow winter storm

 -- The winter storm that has produced a wide variety of winter weather from snow to ice to rain is now exiting the region.  Significant snowfall and ice accumulations have befallen the region and now another round of cold air is on tap for the rest of the week.

Periods of snow, sleet, and rain showers will linger over the region through this afternoon as the storm exits into the Atlantic Ocean.  High pressure will build into the region tonight with clearing skies from west to east.  Winds will back to the northwest at 10 to 20 mph, decreasing to 5 to 15 mph by tomorrow morning.  High pressure will remain in control through Saturday with scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures tonight will crash into the upper 10's to lower 20's for lows tonight, which will produce the threat for widespread black ice.  Temperatures for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will range from the mid 20's to lower 30's for highs and single digits to mid 10's for lows.  In short, the black ice threat is not leaving any time soon.

An area of low pressure will produce periods of light to moderate snow on Sunday morning with some accumulation expected.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 10's for lows and lower to mid 30's for highs.

High pressure will be in control for Monday and Tuesday with scattered clouds and cold weather conditions.  Temperatures will remain below normal with lows in the mid 10's to lower 20's and mid 20's to lower 30's for highs.

An area of low pressure will produce periods of snow on Wednesday with significant accumulations possible.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 10's for lows and upper 20's to mid 30's for highs.
