Hazy, hot, and humid weather returns

Hazy, hot, and humid weather conditions will return to the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas the next three days as temperatures push into the upper 80's to mid 90's for highs!  The good news though is this hot weather pattern won't last long and a much cooler regime is on the way.

Today on through Thursday, high pressure off the North Carolina coast will drive a tropical like air mass into the northern Mid Atlantic.  This tropical air mass will feature the threat for locally dense fog in the morning hours.  Meanwhile, disturbances diving south at the mid and upper levels will keep the threat for widely scattered to isolated showers and strong to severe thunderstorms in place through the forecast period.  The strongest thunderstorms will feature very heavy downpours, frequent lightning, hail, and wind gusts over 50 mph.  Visibility in these thunderstorms will fall below 2 miles at times.  Localized flash flooding and wind damage will be primary threats.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 1 mph.  Temperatures today will rise into the upper 80's to lower 90's for highs.  Temperatures tomorrow will range from the upper 60's to lower 70's for lows and lower to mid 90's for highs, mid to upper 80's along the coast.  Temperatures on Thursday will range from the upper 60's to mid 70's for lows and lower to mid 90's for highs, mid to upper 80's along the immediate coast.

A powerful cold front will drive south on Friday with periods of showers and thunderstorms.  Winds will veer to the north and northeast behind the cold front at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will range from the upper 60's to lower 70's for lows and mid to upper 80's for highs.
