Heavy Rain on the Way Thursday

A cold front will slowly settle south of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas by tonight with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms.  The position of the cold front will allow an area of low pressure developing over the Upper Mid West to track to the south of New Jersey, producing periods of heavy rain tomorrow morning and afternoon.

Though tonight, overcast to broken cloud cover is expected with widely scattered showers and thunderstorms at times.  The thunderstorms will be rather weak with the potential for heavy downpours, occasional lightning, wind gusts over 30 mph, and small hail.  Winds will veer to the north at 5 to 10 mph by this evening as the cold front drops south.  Temperatures this afternoon will range from the upper 70's to lower 80's along the coast and lower to mid 80's throughout the rest of the region.

Tonight, showers and thunderstorms will become widespread towards morning.  Winds will veer to the northeast at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the lower to mid 60's for lows.

The area of low pressure will pass to the south of New Jersey tomorrow afternoon with periods of moderate to heavy rain expected with embedded thunderstorms.  Winds will back from the northeast to northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will struggle to rise into the mid to upper 60's along the coast and lower to mid 70's throughout the res of the region.

Showers will linger into Friday morning followed by clearing skies.  High pressure will gradually build in with winds from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.

High pressure will be in control Saturday and Sunday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Temperatures will be near normal for this time of year with low humidity.  Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 80's.

A series of cold fronts will move through the region on Monday and Tuesday with scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's for lows and lower to mid 80's for highs.
