Improving weather conditions are expected heading into the Memorial Day weekend.

Improving weather conditions are expected heading into the Memorial Day weekend with threat threat for showers and thunderstorms decreasing and a return to summer-like weather conditions by the second half of the weekend.

Today through tomorrow, a series of disturbances will rotate through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas producing isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening hours, basically 2 to 8 PM.  

Otherwise, scattered cloud cover can be expected.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph through the period.  Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the lower to mid 70's over the Philadelphia metropolitan area, upper 60's to lower 70's over the interior and New York City metropolitan area, and mid to upper 60's over Long Island and southern Connecticut. Temperatures night will fall into the lower to mid 50's throughout the region. 

Temperatures tomorrow afternoon will rise into the lower to mid 70's over the Philadelphia metropolitan area, upper 60's to lower 70's over the interior and New York City metropolitan area, and mid to upper 60's over Long Island and southern Connecticut.

High pressure will be in control on Sunday and Monday with scattered cloud cover expected.  Winds will back to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph on Monday afternoon.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the mid to upper 50's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.  Temperatures on Monday will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's for lows and lower to mid 80's for highs.

A cold front will move through the region on Tuesday with showers and thunderstorms.  The thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 40 mph, hail, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's for lows.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 70's over Long Island, upper 70's to lower 80's over the interior, and lower to mid 80's in the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.

High pressure will be in control on Wednesday and Thursday with clearing skies and an isolated shower remaining a threat.  Temperatures will range form the mid to upper 50's for lows and upper 60's to lower 70's for highs.
