Light snow invades the coast tonight

An area of low pressure developing off the Mid Atlantic coast this morning will bring the threat for light snow along the immediate New Jersey coast and portions of the south shore of Long Island.  The rest of the region can expected scattered flurries.  Then cold conditions continue into this weekend, however temperatures start to moderate back to more seasonable levels.

Clouds will increase through this evening as an area of low pressure develops to the east of North Carolina.  Winds will be from the north-northwest at 5 to 15 mph gusting to 25 mph at times.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 10's for highs this afternoon but will fell like the single digits to lower 10's due to the wind chill.

Tonight, snow will develop throughout the region with the steady light snow along the immediate coast.  The radar will look far more impressive than the actual observations as dry air at the mid levels will prevent much of the snow from reaching the ground.  As a result, most locations just north and west of Philadelphia and New York City along with the interior will just have scattered snow showers.  A steady light snow will be focused along the coast, especially over southern New Jersey.  Winds will veer to the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the single digits to lower 10's for lows.  Below is the expected snowfall accumulations.
