Light to moderate snow on the way tomorrow morning

A strong disturbance currently over the northern Plains will drive through the Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley tonight and reach the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas by tomorrow morning, just in time for the morning rush hour.  Snowfall amounts are expected to remain below 4" in most locations with the greatest concern being poor visibility at times and slick roads.

The strong disturbance will move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas between 3 AM over eastern Pennsylvania and 3 PM over eastern Connecticut and easter Long Island.  The heaviest and most steady precipitation will be between 5 AM and 1 PM over the immediate metropolitan areas.

The low pressure system is expected to track over southern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and then just southeast of Long Island.  To the north and along the storm track, snowfall amounts will average 2 to 4 inches of snow, while locations to the south of the storm track will average a trace to an inch of snow with some mixing of rain at times as warmer air invades from the south.  The south shore of Long Island likely will mix with rain the most, thus limiting snowfall totals in these locations, however the north shore of Long Island and over southeastern Connecticut, the low pressure system will be steadily intensifying leading to the potential for snowfall totals over 4" in isolated locations, especially over southeastern Connecticut.

Details on what to expect from this storm can be found on the snow map below.  Overall, this low pressure system will be moving far too fast to produce much more than 4" of snow in this type of pattern.  What complicates matters is that this snowfall will be at the height of rush hour which will lead to some travel delays.
