Periods of rain through Saturday

The first of several waves of rainfall that will move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas through Saturday will approach the region by this afternoon.  A rather wet period of weather can be expected on through next week leading to near to above normal rainfall along with the threat for some localize urban flooding.  Temperatures through the period will generally average near normal.

Clouds will increase through this morning with periods of showers this afternoon and evening.  The showers will be capable of brief heavy downpours which will lead to localized urban flooding and poor visibility.  As the cold front moves through the region winds will veer to the northwest at 5 to 15mph this afternoon.  Temperatures will rise into the upper 50's to lower 60's for most locations, lower to mid 50's along the immediate coast.

The cold front will stall to the south of New Jersey by tonight and will remain stalled through Friday which will keep broken cloud cover over the region and a constant threat for scattered showers.  The showers will be capable of heavy downpours at times and a few embedded thunderstorms will be a threat.  Winds will veer to the northeast tonight and east by tomorrow at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid 40's for lows and mid to upper 50's for highs tomorrow.  On Friday, temperatures will range form the mid 40's for lows and lower to mid 50's for highs.

An area of low pressure will lift through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas on Saturday with periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms.  With the low pressure track to the west of the region, temperatures will range from the mid to upper 40's for lows and lower to mid 60's for highs.

High pressure will be in control Sunday on through Monday afternoon with scattered cloud cover and generally tranquil weather conditions.  A strong area of low pressure will follow on Monday night into Tuesday with periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.  Localized urban and river flooding will be a threat with rainfall amounts over an inch possible.  Temperatures will range from the upper 30's to lower 40's for lows and upper 50's to lower 60's for highs.
