Series of winter storms target region

A significant winter storm is currently impacting the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas with rain changing over to heavy, wet snowfall.  Another storm is on the way for Wednesday with snow, ice, and rain.  Followed by a third storm on Saturday night into Sunday.  Yeah, this winter is just not going away quietly.

Today, periods of heavy snow will continue over the New York City metropolitan area while rain will change over to heavy snow over the Philadelphia metropolitan area and coastal New Jersey.  Winds will be from the north at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will fall into and hold in the lower to mid 30's.  Expect visibility to fall below 2 miles at times.  Below is the expected snowfall for today.

Skies will clear tonight with high pressure taking hold and remaining in place through tomorrow.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the upper 10's to mid 20's for lows tonight.  High temperatures tomorrow will rebound into the lower to mid 30's for highs tomorrow.

Another area of low pressure will approach the region Tuesday night through Wednesday with a variety of winter weather impacts.  Along the immediate coast, the snow is expected to change over to rain with some minor snowfall accumulations.  Just away from the coast, periods of heavy snow will change over to a prolonged periods of sleet and freezing rain.  Meanwhile, the northern interior can expect periods of snow and sleet.  Temperatures will range from the mid 20's to lower 30's for lows throughout the region.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 30's for most of the region, upper 30's to lower 40's along the coast.  The threat map is below.

High pressure will be in control Wednesday night through Saturday morning with scattered cloud cover expected.  Temperatures will remain below normal through the period.  Temperatures will range from the upper 10's to mid 20's for lows and upper 20's to mid 30's for highs.

Another winter storm will be a threat Saturday night through Sunday with a coastal low pressure system just off the New Jersey coast.  The exact track of this storm is uncertain thus there is potential for a rain/snow mix along the coast and heavy snow over the interior.  This storm has the potential to produce significant snowfall throughout the entire region.  Temperatures will range from the upper 10's to lower 20's for lows and upper 20's to mid 30's for highs.
