Showers and Thunderstorms Mark End of Heat Wave

The hazy, hot, and humid weather conditions that really only last two days, Tuesday and yesterday, will come to a very wet end today as showers and thunderstorms move through the region through this afternoon.  Then our friendly marine air mass returns just in time for the weekend.

A cold front and wave of low pressure will move through the region through this afternoon with waves of showers and thunderstorms.  Although most thunderstorms will not be severe, the strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 50 mph, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and hail.  The heavy rainfall will potentially produce localized flash flooding.  Meanwhile wind damage from some thunderstorms will be a concern.  Visibility in the heavy rainfall will fall below a mile at times.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid 80's for highs throughout the region.

High pressure will build into the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas tonight through tomorrow with scattered cloud cover expected.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 80's.

A back door cold front will settle to the south of the region on Saturday and remain in place through Wednesday.  Scattered to overcast cloud cover can be expected as a result with periods of widely scattered to isolated showers.  Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's over the interior, upper 50's to lower 60's over the New York City metropolitan area, and lower to mid 60's over the Philadelphia metropolitan area.  High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 70's over Long Island, upper 70's to lower 80's over the New York City metropolitan areas and northern interior, and lower to mid 80's over the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
