A stationary front over the Ohio River Valley will inch towards the region this afternoon as a warm front before stalling to the southwest of Philadelphia tonight on through Sunday. As a result, clouds will increase today followed by periods of showers and thunderstorms tonight on through Sunday. Skies will finally clear out for Monday and Tuesday.
Today, clouds will increase through the day with isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon hours. Most locations will remain dry through the early afternoon hours. Winds will veer to the southeast at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the upper 60's to lower 70's over Long Island, lower to mid 70's over the rest of the New York City metropolitan area, and mid to upper 70's over the Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
Tonight on through tomorrow, periods of showers and thunderstorms will drop southeastward through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 50 mph, frequent lightning, hail, and very heavy downpours. Winds will back to the northeast at 5 to 15 mph. Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's over the interior and upper 50's to lower 60's along the coast and in urban locations. High temperatures will range from the upper 60's to lower 70's over Long Island and mid to upper 70's throughout the rest of the region.

Although not a wash out this weekend, the threat does exist for a shower or thunderstorm at any time. The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 50 mph, frequent lightning, hail, and very heavy downpours. Temperatures on Saturday will range from the mid 50's to lows and upper 60's to lower 70's for highs. Temperatures on Sunday will be much warmer with lows in the mid to upper 50's and highs in the lower to mid 70's along the immediate coast and upper 70's to lower 80's throughout the rest of the region.
High pressure will attempt to take hold on Monday and Tuesday with scattered cloud cover expected. An isolated shower or thunderstorm remains a threat. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.
