Strong To Severe Thunderstorms Target Region Today

A stationary boundary over the Mid Atlantic will lift northeast through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas by this evening followed by a weakening cold front tonight.  The interaction of air masses over the region will lead to wide spread showers and strong to severe thunderstorms throughout today into this evening.

Today, showers and thunderstorms will be widespread throughout the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.  Much of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be at the highest threat for severe thunderstorms which will be capable of very heavy downpours, frequent lightning, wind gusts over 60 mph, and hail.  The rest of the region will have showers and thunderstorms still capable of heavy downpours.  Rainfall amounts will range from a half an inch to an inch with localized amounts up to two inches in heavy downpours.  Winds will veer from the southeast to southwest at 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph this afternoon.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 60's over Long Island and Connecticut, lower to mid 70's over the New York City metropolitan areas, mid to upper 70's over northwestern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania, and upper 70's to lower 80's over the Philadelphia metropolitan area and Delaware River Valley.

Showers will linger into tomorrow morning as the cold front exits and weakens.  Scattered cloud cover with isolated showers can be expected through tomorrow afternoon.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's for lows and lower to mid 70's for highs throughout the region.

Another disturbance will move through on Saturday with scattered cloud cover and widely scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Temperatures will range from the mid 50's for lows and lower to mid 70's for highs.

High pressure will take hold fro Sunday and Monday with scattered cloud cover, fog in the morning, and an isolated shower possible.  The fog may become locally dense along the coast.  Temperatures will be very summer like through the period.  Low temperatures will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's throughout the region.  High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 70's along the coast and lower to mid 80's throughout the rest of the region.

A series of disturbances will produce widespread showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's for lows and mid to upper 70's for highs.
