Warm and Humid Pattern Returns

Just in time for the start of June, a warm and humid air mass will take hold over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.  While temperatures will average near normal through this week, the humidity will make temperatures fell warmer.  Along with the increasing humidity will be the threat of showers and thunderstorms as weak disturbances pass through the region.

Today, high pressure will continue to shift off the coast.  Clear skies to scattered clouds can be expected through tomorrow morning.  Winds will be from the southwest at around 5 mph through this afternoon, increasing to 5 to 10 mph by tonight.  Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the lower to mid 80's throughout much of the region, mid to upper 70's along the immediate coast.  Low temperatures will fall into the upper 50's to lower 60's by tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, a weakening cold front will approach the region with scattered showers and strong to isolated severe thunderstorms.  The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 40 mph, frequent lightning, hail, and very heavy downpours.  Localized urban flooding is a threat along with minor wind damage.  Winds will veer to the west at 5 to 10 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 80's through out the region, upper 70's to lower 80's along the immediate coast of New Jersey, mid to upper 70's over Long Island.

A series of disturbances and weak cold fronts will move through the region on Wednesday and Thursday with broken to overcast cloud cover and scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.

A cold front will exit off the coast on Friday with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the morning followed by clearing skies.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60's for lows and upper 70's to lower 80's for highs.

High pressure will take hold Friday night on through Sunday with clear skies to scattered clouds.  Temperatures will remain near normal with lows in the lower to mid 60's and highs in the lower to mid 80s' in urban area, mid to upper 70's along the immediate coast for highs.
