Warm and tranquil conditions today

Tranquil and warm conditions are expected today with high pressure siding across the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.  While an isolated shower can not be ruled out, most locations can expect clear skies to scattered cloud cover with very comfortable temperatures this afternoon.  However, a cold front will approach the northern Mid Atlantic by tomorrow afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected.

Today through tomorrow morning, expect clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  An isolated shower is possible but not likely.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 60's over much of the region, upper 50's to lower 60's over Long Island, for highs this afternoon.  Tonight, temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 40's over the interior and upper 40's to lower 50's along the coast.

A cold front will move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas tomorrow evening with scattered showers and thunderstorms.  The thunderstorms will be capable of heavy downpours, frequent lightning, wind gusts up to 40 mph, and some small hail.  Winds will veer to the northwest tomorrow night at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures rise into the lower to mid 60's, upper 50's to lower 60's over Long Island, for highs tomorrow afternoon.

High pressure will be in control for Saturday and Sunday with scattered cloud cover expected.  While an isolated shower is possible, most locations will remain dry and very warm.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Low temperatures will range from the upper 40's to lower 50's.  High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60's over Long Island and lower to mid 70's throughout the rest of the northern Mid Atlantic.  Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees above normal for this time of year this weekend!

A cold front will approach the region by Monday night into Tuesday with periods of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms.  The thunderstorms will have the potential to reach severe levels with wind gusts over 50 mph, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and hail.  Temperatures on Monday ahead of the cold front will range from the lower to mid 50's for lows and lower to mid 70's for highs.  Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the upper 40's to lower 50's for lows and upper 50's to lower 60's for highs.

High pressure will be in control on Wednesday with scattered cloud cover and temperatures returning to seasonable levels.  Low temperatures will range from the upper 30's to lower 40's.  High temperatures will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's for highs.
