Warm and unsettled conditions through this weekend

Warm yet unsettled weather conditions can be expected through this weekend as the threat for isolated showers and thunderstorms will linger over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.  While most locations can expect scattered clouds to clear skies, the threat for an isolated shower or thunderstorm will be a lingering issue.

Today through tomorrow, scattered cloud cover to clear skies can be expected.  A series of weak disturbances will keep the threat for an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon.  The strongest thunderstorm will be capable of heavy downpours, frequent lightning, small hail, and wind gusts up to 40 mph.  However, most locations can expect dry conditions.  Winds will back from the northwest to southwest at 10 to 20 mph, decreasing to 5 to 15 mph by tomorrow afternoon.  Temperatures today will rise into the upper 50's to lower 60's, mid 50's over Long Island.  Temperatures tomorrow will range from the upper 30's to lower 40's for lows and mid to upper 60's for highs for much of the region.  Due to influence from the Long Island Sound, Long Island will range from the mid to upper 50's over eastern Long Island and upper 50's to lower 60's over western Long Island.

A series of disturbances will keep the threat for isolated showers and thunderstorms in the forecast Friday on through Sunday.  The strongest thunderstorm will feature heavy downpours, frequent lightning, small hail, and wind gusts up to 40 mph.  Otherwise, scattered cloud cover to clear skies can be expected.  Temperatures through the period will average above normal under the influence of a persistent southwesterly wind at all levels of the atmosphere.  Temperatures will range from the upper 40's to mid 50's for lows and upper 60's to lower 70's for highs over much of the region.  Long Island through the period will average from the lower to mid 60's over eastern Long Island and mid to upper 60's over western Long Island.
