Warm weekend, but snow returns for Monday

An excellent period of weather is on the way for the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas for this weekend and just in time for the Super Bowl.  While a few showers will be a threat through the big game tomorrow evening, overall weather conditions will be pleasant.  However, Monday will mark the return to winter with the threat for a moderate to heavy snowfall for the Philadelphia metropolitan area and a light snowfall in the New York City metropolitan areas.

Today through tomorrow morning, scattered to variable cloud cover can be expected.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the mid to upper 40's for highs.  Temperatures tonight will fall into the lower to mid 30's for morning lows.

Tomorrow afternoon, a cold front will move through the region with scattered showers expected.  Showers will become isolated by the evening hours.  Winds will veer to the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 40's for highs ahead of the cold front and then fall through the 40's and 30's in the evening.

An area of low pressure will lift northeast along the cold front on Monday with periods of light to moderate snowfall expected.  The snowfall will develop on early Monday morning and continue through the afternoon hours.  The heaviest snowfall will be on Monday morning over central New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania. Winds will be from the north and northeast at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will fall through the 30's through the day with an early morning high in the mid to upper 30's falling and hold in the lower 30's through the afternoon hours.  The snow forecast for this storm is below.

Winter isn't done yet!  Another winter storm will approach the region on Tuesday evening through Wednesday with periods of moderate to heavy snowfall over northern interior locations like northeastern Pennsylvania, northwestern New Jersey, the Hudson River Valley, and northern Connecticut.  A mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain can be expected throughout the rest of the region with the potential for a moderate snowfall, significant ice accumulations, and localized flash flooding along the immediate coast.  Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the lower to mid 20's for lows and mid 30's to lower 40's for highs.  Temperatures on Wednesday will range from the mid 20's to lower 30's for lows and mid 30's to mid 40's for highs.  The warmest locations will be along the immediate coast.

High pressure will take hold on Thursday and Friday with tranquil weather conditions expected.  Another winter storm will target the region by Saturday with more snowfall possible.  Temperatures on Thursday will range from the mid 20's to lower 30's for lows and lower to mid 30's for highs.  Temperatures on Friday will range from the upper 10's to lower 20's for lows and lower to mid 30's for highs.
