Warmer conditions on the way

As warm air begins to invade the northern Mid Atlantic this morning, the northern suburbs and interior locations of the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas will have to deal with some freezing rain this morning.  Meanwhile, a period of rain can be expected along the coast as a warm front lifts north.  Far warmer conditions will be on the way today on through the end of the week, but a return to colder weather conditions and even the threat of snow is not far behind.

A warm front will lift northward through the region today with periods of freezing rain over the interior until noon and rain along the coast.  Temperatures vary significant over the interior this morning from the single digits to lower 30's, high lighting the ability of valley locations with deep snow packs to hold on to the cold air.  Ice accumulations will range from a trace to as much as 0.25" before going over to rain.  Significant caution should be taken in locations like much of eastern Pennsylvania out side of Philadelphia, northwestern New Jersey, the Hudson River Valley, and northwestern Connecticut.  The rest of the northern Mid Atlantic can expect periods of rain this afternoon.  Winds will veer from the southeast to southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the upper 30's to lower 40's over the interior and mid to upper 40's along the coast.

High pressure will take hold tonight on through tomorrow with generally clear skies to scattered cloud cover expected.  The continued transport of warm air into the region will lead to the threat for locally dense fog to develop with visibility falling below 2 miles at times.  Temperatures will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows and mid to upper 40's for highs.

A cold front will attempt to move through the region on Friday with periods of rain and possibly even an embedded thunderstorm in the late afternoon and evening.  Strong southwesterly winds can be expected ahead of the warm front.  The later the cold front passes, the warmer conditions will become.  At this time, temperatures are expected to range from the upper 30's to lower 40's for lows and upper 40's to mid 50's for highs.

High pressure will be in control on Saturday and Sunday which promises to be a very warm and tranquil weekend.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 30's for lows and lower to mid 50's for highs through the weekend.

A cold front will move through the region late Sunday into Monday with scattered showers.  An area of low pressure will approach the region on Tuesday with periods of snow showers.  Temperatures on Monday will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows and upper 30's to lower 40's for highs.  Temperatures on Tuesday will range from the mid to upper 20's for lows and lower to mid 30's for highs.
