Widespread Showers and Thunderstorms Expected

An area of low pressure with an advancing warm front this morning and cold front this evening will produce periods of showers and thunderstorms today.  However, the weekend is looking perfect with excellent weather conditions expected!

This morning, an area of low pressure with a warm front will lift northward with periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms.  The showers and thunderstorms will be capable of very heavy downpours leading to localized flash flooding and visibility below 2 miles.  Scattered to broken clouds are expected between the advancing warm front and the cold front to the west, which will allow temperatures to rise into the upper 70's to lower 80's in the New York City metropolitan area and lower to mid 80's in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.  Winds will veer from the southeast to southwest at 5 to 15 mph.

This evening, a cold front will advance through the region with widespread showers and strong to isolated severe thunderstorms.  The strongest thunderstorms will be capable very heavy downpours, wind gusts over 50 mph, frequent lightning, and small hail.  Localized flash and urban flooding along with visibility falling below 2 miles can be expected.  Winds will veer from the southwest to northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the upper 50's to lower 60's for lows.

High pressure will build into the region tomorrow morning with clearing skies expected.  High pressure will be in control through Sunday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the upper 70's to lower 80's for highs in the afternoon.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the upper 50's to lower 60's for lows and lower to mid 80's for highs.

A much hotter and humid air mass will take hold for next week with a threat for showers and thunderstorms each day.  A series of disturbances diving from the Great Lakes into the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas can be expected through the period which will produce the threat for showers and thunderstorms.  The strongest thunderstorms will feature wind gusts over 50 mph, frequent lightning, hail, and very heavy downpours.  The thunderstorms will also feature the threat for wind damage, localized flash flooding, and visibility below 2 miles.  Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60's.  High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 80's with high levels of humidity.
