Active Silvermead Resident Dies at 93

Visitation for Helen Verdi is Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home in Freehold Township.

Helen Verdi, 93, of Freehold Township passed away surrounded by her family and dear friend, Bobbie at CentraState Medical Center on Tuesday.  

Helen was born and raised in Newark and had lived in Maplewood before moving to the Silvermead Community in 1984. Helen was very active at Silvermead.  Known as the bucket lady, she was the Sergeant of Arms for Silvermead and the Shuffleboard Club. Helen was a member of their Bocce Club and Tenant Association. She was a Girl Scout Leader for over twenty years in Essex County.  Helen was a member of the Red Hat Society and a parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine. She was affectionately known as Robin of the Bobbie & Robin duo. 

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Verdi and two brothers, Charles Jaworski and Walter Jaworski.  She is survived by two daughters, Catherine A. Campbell of Liberty Twp., Ohio and RoseLynn Raibick and her husband, Alan of Wall; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, Aug. 9 from 3 to 7 p.m.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 9:30 a.m. Funeral Service on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Helen may be made to Interfaith Neighbors (Meals on Wheels), 810 4th Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ  07712.
