Ruth Elaine Schreiber, age 81, of Adelphia passed away December 2, 2013 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center with her children and daughter-in-law by her side.
Ruth resided in her childhood home all of her life. She was a graduate of Freehold Borough High School. In 1963 Ruth was appointed by the President of the United States to the position of Postmaster in Adelphia where she faithfully served for 29 years. She was a member of Bethesda UMC, Adelphia. Ruth was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Adelphia Fire Company.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Schreiber. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Nancy Schreiber of Wall; her son, Henry Schreiber and his wife, Diane of Freehold Township; and her beloved grandson, Thomas Schreiber; her sister, Adrienne Aumock of Virginia Beach, VA; her two brothers, William of Freehold Township and Arthur Wagner of Jackson; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was a wonderful cook and always had room at her table. As a single parent, she raised three children to be caring and compassionate. Ruth had many friends and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. She loved birds and always enjoyed watching them come to her many feeders in her backyard, as well as her excitement at the arrival of the first robins in spring.
She enjoyed going to the shore to watch the Thursday night fireworks on a weekly basis and visiting with friends there. In her younger years Ruth delighted in her many flower gardens and could name each of the Iris by its name. She became grandmother to many pets throughout her lifetime. Ruth loved all of us deeply and in turn we loved her deeply and will miss her greatly.
