Former Freehold Soccer League Coach Dies at 75

Donald J. Cowie was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1672 and was a former coach for the Freehold Soccer League.

Donald J. Cowie, 75, of Freehold Township, died on Saturday, Feb. 9 at CentraState Medical Center. He Born in New York City, but resided in Freehold Township for the past 50 years.

Before retiring, Cowie worked as a metal lather for National Acoustics in New York City for his entire career. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1672 and was also a member of Bella Vista Country Club, Marlboro. Cowie was a former coach of the Freehold Soccer League, an avid fisherman and a NY Giant season ticket holder for 40 years. He was a communicant and usher at St. Rose of Lima Church.

Cowie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Claudette, his three daughters and two sons-in-law, Eileen Allen of Freehold, Marie and Ken Speers of Yardley, PA and Beth and Glenn Fischer of Washington, NJ; and 8 grandchildren, Jack, Matt and Maggie Allen, Christine and Kelly Speers and Kelsey, Austin and Douglas Fischer.

Services for Cowie were held on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Freeman Funeral Home. A Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
